VainVaincraft is starting

Hey guys, gals, and everything in between, around or outside of those two gender boxes… I’m Vain, and I’m trying to start a Minecraft Adventure that I’d like to share with all of you… So here is my Hello World announcement!

Now, what can be expected from this Adventure?

Honestly, I don’t know where the end goal actually really is… I have a vague vision of something I want to make a reality, and I hope you can all follow along with me in my journey to get there, and maybe even beyond…

So let’s give you some details of the vague vision I have…

I want to learn how to make a successful Minecraft server…

What does successful mean? I want a Minecraft Server that regularly hits over 100 concurrent members.

I want a Minecraft server that is self-sufficient, so any earnings should offset the costs.

I want a Minecraft server that lasts 3 years, surviving at least 3 Seasons, with growing player counts…

I want a Minecraft server that has a friendly, welcoming, inclusive community… A place I’d be happy to take my bar buddy and my kids!

I want a Minecraft server that brings people together! So, I want it accessible to bedrockers and Java Minecrafters.

So that’s the goal! Right now, I’m one man with a keyboard and a bit of past experience to go off… ok so I may be slightly understating my past experience, but trust me… I’m not doing anything you couldn’t do too, and I still have a long way to go…

I’m gonna try to log my Journey via regular blog posts and development posts. These may be text-based or likely YouTube video-based. If you’re interested in my journey, follow along, comment below, share your insights, tips, tricks, lend a hand…

Anyhow – the first decision I gotta make… how do I host my Server Idea, whilst it’s all just an idea in my head and under development?

I have two trains of thought – I could develop the server idea internally, working on a proof of concept, and once happy with some sort of beta version, host it and make it accessible to some beta testers…

This idea has the benefit of allowing me to work on the server in a nice controlled environment and work on getting my vision into a medium that can be critiqued by others… basically, hopefully it’ll get me feedback and an idea if my server concept even has legs…

The other idea, is that host the development server concept on a server host like Bisect Hosting (Whilst this project is not affiliated with bisect hosting in anyway, I am an employee of bisect hosting, and as such I trust thier server hosting abilities more than I trust others personally, but that is purly because seeing is believing, and I have actually seen it…)

With this idea, I’d just open a development discord and a page on this website for people to find the server details and the current project/task in development. people would be free to join and provide feedback, beta test, critique, etc. But everyone would have to be fully aware that the server they are joining is in active development. No assurances will be provided about functions, features or continuity working as intended… regular downtime and performance issues will be the norm for a lot of active time.

I like the idea of this as it provides a much more raw experience to anyone who wants to follow the development of this project. Able to see the nitty gritty.

I want to be fully transparent with my journey – or as transparent as I can be – so here’s a list of some of the things I’m gonna share with you…

Hardware used

learning resources used

tools used

plugins used

services used

mods/datapack used

costs and earnings

Now this list is subject to change. But you get the idea… not only do I want to create the best Minecraft community I can for me, I want to share with you all, how I did that so you can learn from my many, many mistakes. Or maybe I’ll get something right, and you can copy me? Or and even better yet… Maybe you can use something you learn from my community to make your own community even better!

So I think I’m gonna do a combo of the two… I’m gonna work on a feature, an issue, or a project locally. And at regularly announced intervals, I’ll upload my progress to this site, bisect hosting, and anywhere else I can try and get your eyes on it for feedback and testing…

This means the version you’ll all have access to will be buggy, it’ll have issues, and it’ll be a work in progress. But you can be involved in that progress. You can help shape the server to be the best home you will ever find..

I have a vague germ of an idea, where we create a games network – starting with a Minecraft network of servers to cater to a wide range of playstyles.

SMP’s, Minigames, Parkour, Builders, RPGers… we want to get them all.

Then I want to add some crossover games. Minecraft has a pretty good Rust port. Cobblemon is an excellent Pokémon experience. There’s even Dragon Ball crossover content. Now, this isn’t to dilute the Minecraft playerbase. But it is to bring those other game player bases together.

Then we want to cater to other player bases. Could we launch an ARK server? Could we launch a DayZ server? Could we have a thriving Destiny community? All to bring these diverse, amazing communities together. All in an effort to create a go-to community for like-minded individuals to join in the next big game.

I love gaming. I love the communities it creates. I love gaming with friends. Because we all know, Microsoft was onto something when they said, “Better together.” I want to make that original promise true.

Cross-play game support is finally here with Vain Asher Gaming, and our focus is on cross-platform games. bringing an end to the console wars, bringing an end to the PC master race. bringing us together.
